Before choosing a reference
What matters for Coop + run?
An attached run is not necessarily roofed. The Covered Run combines a rear 6 × 4 ft coop and front 6 × 6 ft run beneath one gable roof. The Walk-In pairs a left 6 × 8 ft coop with a right 6 × 8 ft open-air mesh run.
The trade-off: A covered run changes rain exposure, not the need to review runoff, wind-driven rain and wet ground. The open-air direction needs its own shade and weather plan.
- Mark enclosed and outdoor zones separately; do not count the overall footprint twice.
- Keep the human gate, coop service door and shared bird opening usable.
- Observe where roof runoff and surface water travel after rain.
When to reconsider: An attached run is not proof of sufficient confinement space or predator resistance. Those conditions still need an actual-site review.
